Behaviour Support Plan Implementation
Consistent Support Built Around the Individual
A Behaviour Support Plan works best when the people providing day-to-day support understand the person, their needs and the strategies outlined in their plan.
Ardor Care supports participants with the implementation of Behaviour Support Plans as part of their everyday supports.
We work closely with participants, families, Behaviour Support Practitioners and other members of the support team to help ensure strategies are understood and implemented consistently.
Our focus is on providing respectful, predictable and person-centred support that promotes wellbeing, choice and quality of life.
How Ardor Care Can Support
Depending on the participant's individual Behaviour Support Plan and support needs, our role may include:
- Implementing strategies outlined in the participant's Behaviour Support Plan
- Supporting proactive and preventative approaches
- Recognising individual triggers, early warning signs and communication cues
- Following agreed strategies when a participant becomes distressed or dysregulated
- Supporting routines, communication and environmental strategies
- Helping participants engage in everyday activities and community participation
- Recording relevant observations, incidents and outcomes
- Communicating changes or concerns with the appropriate members of the support team
- Participating in training and guidance provided by the participant's Behaviour Support Practitioner
Support is tailored to the individual and delivered in accordance with their current plans, assessed needs and agreed support arrangements.
Working Together for Consistent Support
Consistency is particularly important when implementing a Behaviour Support Plan.
Our Support Workers are expected to understand the participant's individual plan and the strategies relevant to their role before providing the associated support.
We work collaboratively with Behaviour Support Practitioners, families, Support Coordinators, allied health professionals and other providers where appropriate to support a consistent approach across the participant's support network.
Where participant-specific training is required, we work with the relevant practitioner or professional to help ensure workers understand how the plan should be implemented.
Positive and Respectful Support
Behaviour support is about understanding the person and the reasons behind their behaviour, not simply responding when something goes wrong.
We aim to support participants in ways that respect their dignity, choices, communication and individual needs while promoting positive relationships and meaningful participation in everyday life.
By understanding the participant's preferences, routines, communication and support strategies, our team can provide more predictable and responsive day-to-day support.
When Restrictive Practices Are Included
Where a participant's Behaviour Support Plan includes a regulated restrictive practice, additional requirements apply.
Ardor Care has processes in place for the implementation of authorised restrictive practices within our scope, including relevant worker training, documentation, reporting and compliance requirements.
