Individualised Living Options (ILO)

Living Arrangements Built Around the Individual

Individualised Living Options (ILO) supports people to explore and establish a living arrangement that reflects how, where and with whom they would like to live.

Rather than fitting into a standard model of supported living, ILO is designed around the individual. This might involve living independently, with a housemate or within another arrangement that suits the person's preferences, relationships and support needs.

At Ardor Care, we work alongside participants and the important people in their lives to help establish and provide supports within an individualised living arrangement.

How ILO Works

ILO can look different for every person.

The process starts with understanding the participant's vision for their home and everyday life, including where they would like to live, who they would like to live with and what support they may need to make the arrangement work.

An ILO arrangement generally brings together Primary Supports — the main supports that help the person live in their chosen arrangement — and Supplementary Supports, which provide additional assistance when required.

The exact arrangement is developed around the individual rather than using the same support model for everyone.

How Ardor Care Can Support

Depending on the participant's individual ILO arrangement, support may include:

  • Exploring living preferences and support needs
  • Establishing routines within the home
  • Assistance with everyday living
  • Building independence and daily living skills
  • Supporting household responsibilities
  • Community participation and maintaining social connections
  • Supporting relationships within the living arrangement
  • Working with family, informal supports and the broader support network
  • Providing supplementary support where required
  • Reviewing support arrangements as circumstances and needs change

The type of support provided will depend on the participant's individual ILO arrangement, goals and funded supports.

Our Approach

A successful ILO arrangement is about more than providing rostered support. It should reflect the individual, their relationships, their preferences and how they want their everyday life to look.

We take the time to understand what matters to the participant and work collaboratively with families, Support Coordinators and other members of the support network where appropriate.

Our focus is on creating support arrangements that are practical, sustainable and responsive while promoting choice, independence and connection.

ILO or SIL?

Individualised Living Options and Supported Independent Living can both support people in their everyday lives, but they are different approaches.

ILO is built around an individualised living arrangement and can incorporate formal and informal supports in different ways.

SIL generally involves paid support provided within a shared or individual living environment based on the participant's support needs.

If you're unsure which approach may be relevant, our team can discuss Ardor Care's support options with you and work alongside your Support Coordinator and broader support network.
