Short Term Accommodation (STA)

A Supportive Short Stay Away From Home

Short Term Accommodation (STA), often referred to as respite, can provide eligible participants with a short stay away from their usual home while receiving the disability support they need.

A short stay can offer a change of environment, opportunities to try new activities, build everyday skills and enjoy time in the community. It can also provide a break from usual routines for participants and their informal supports.

At Ardor Care, we focus on making each stay comfortable, supportive and suited to the participant's individual needs, preferences and routines.

How Ardor Care Can Support

Support during a Short Term Accommodation stay is planned around the individual.

Depending on the participant's needs and support arrangements, this may include:

  • Personal care and daily living assistance
  • Meal preparation and mealtime support
  • Support with everyday routines
  • Community access and recreational activities
  • Building confidence and daily living skills
  • Support with personal interests and preferred activities
  • Medication assistance within the participant's support arrangements
  • High Intensity Supports where required and within Ardor Care's scope
  • Behaviour Support Plan implementation where required

Before a stay is arranged, we take the time to understand the participant's support requirements, routines, preferences and any relevant plans or training requirements.

A Stay Built Around the Individual

Everyone has different ideas about what makes an enjoyable and comfortable stay.

Some participants may want to get out into the community and try new activities. Others may prefer familiar routines, quieter activities or simply a change of environment.

We work with the participant and their support network to understand what matters to them and plan support around their preferences.

Our aim is to provide a positive experience while maintaining the consistency, safety and support the participant requires.

Support for More Complex Needs

Ardor Care can consider Short Term Accommodation for participants with more complex support requirements.

Where required, this may include High Intensity Supports delivered by appropriately trained and competent workers or implementation of strategies contained within an existing Behaviour Support Plan.

Suitability is considered individually so that any participant-specific support plans, accessibility requirements, worker training and other support needs can be understood before the stay is confirmed.

Supporting Participants and Their Informal Supports

Short Term Accommodation can also provide families and other informal supports with time away from their usual caring responsibilities.

We understand the importance of knowing that the person you support is comfortable, understood and receiving appropriate support during their stay.

Clear communication before and during the stay helps us understand routines, preferences and support requirements and provides continuity for the participant.
