Supported Independent Living (SIL)
Supporting Independence at Home
Supported Independent Living (SIL) provides assistance with everyday tasks to help people live as independently as possible in their home while receiving the support they need.
SIL can support people with a range of daily living needs and may involve support throughout different parts of the day, including overnight support where required.
At Ardor Care, we provide SIL support tailored to each person's individual needs, routines, preferences and goals.
SIL support can be provided in shared or individual living arrangements, depending on the participant's needs, preferences and approved supports.
How Ardor Care Can Support
A home is more than just a place to live. It is a person's own space, where everyday routines, relationships and independence are built.
Our team works with each participant to understand how they prefer to be supported and what is important to them in their everyday life.
Depending on the participant's needs and funded supports, assistance may include:
- Personal care and daily living assistance
- Meal preparation and mealtime support
- Support with household tasks and maintaining the home
- Medication assistance within the participant's support arrangements
- Support with everyday routines
- Building and maintaining daily living skills
- Community access and social participation
- Support to attend appointments and everyday activities
- High Intensity Supports where required and within Ardor Care's scope
- Behaviour Support Plan implementation where required
Support arrangements are developed around the individual and can be adjusted as needs, routines and circumstances change.
Support for More Complex Needs
Some participants receiving SIL have more complex or high intensity support requirements.
Ardor Care can provide High Intensity Supports where required and within our scope, delivered by appropriately trained and competent workers.
Where a participant has an existing Behaviour Support Plan, our team can also implement relevant strategies as part of their everyday support. Where authorised restrictive practices are involved, these are implemented in accordance with the participant's plan, relevant authorisations and applicable requirements.
Consistency at Home
Having consistent support can be particularly important when someone relies on workers as part of their everyday home life.
We focus on building positive relationships, understanding individual routines and providing reliable support that respects the participant's choices, preferences and way of living.
Our aim is to support participants to maintain their independence, develop skills where appropriate and have greater choice and control in everyday life.
Working With the Support Network
SIL often involves collaboration between the participant and the people involved in their support.
We work closely with participants, families and informal supports, Support Coordinators, allied health professionals and other relevant providers to help ensure supports are coordinated and responsive to the participant's needs.
Clear communication is particularly important when circumstances, support needs or routines change.
SIL and the Home
Supported Independent Living refers to the supports a participant receives in their home rather than the home or property itself.
Participants may live with other people or in another living arrangement appropriate to their circumstances.
Ardor Care can work with participants and their support networks to understand their existing or proposed living arrangement and determine how our SIL supports may fit within it.
