Support Within SDA Environments

Personalised Support Within Specialist Disability Accommodation

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is housing designed for eligible NDIS participants with significant functional impairment or very high support needs who require specialised housing solutions.

SDA relates to the home itself. The day-to-day supports a participant receives while living in an SDA property are separate from the provision of the accommodation.

Ardor Care provides personalised disability supports to participants living within SDA environments, helping people manage everyday routines, participate in their community and live with greater choice and independence in their home.

How Ardor Care Can Support

Support is tailored to each participant's individual needs, routines, preferences and funded supports.

Depending on the participant's requirements, this may include:

  • Personal care and daily living assistance
  • Support with everyday routines
  • Meal preparation and mealtime support
  • Assistance with household tasks as part of everyday support
  • Community access and social participation
  • Medication assistance within the participant's support arrangements
  • High Intensity Supports where required and within Ardor Care's scope
  • Behaviour Support Plan implementation where required
  • Restrictive Practice Implementation where authorised and applicable

Support arrangements are developed around the individual and take into account relevant support plans, assessments, routines and participant-specific requirements.

Supporting Complex Needs

Participants living in SDA may have a range of different support requirements, including complex or high intensity needs.

Ardor Care can provide High Intensity Supports where required and within our scope, delivered by appropriately trained and competent workers.

Where a participant has an existing Behaviour Support Plan, our workers can also implement relevant strategies as part of their everyday support. Where authorised restrictive practices are included, these are implemented in accordance with the participant's plan, relevant authorisations and applicable requirements.

Working Within the Participant's Home

An SDA property is first and foremost the participant's home.

Our approach is centred on respecting each person's privacy, routines, preferences and choices while providing the support they require.

We aim to provide consistent and reliable support that helps participants maintain their everyday routines, develop independence where possible and remain connected with their community.

Working With SDA and Support Networks

Providing effective support within an SDA environment often involves coordination between different people and organisations.

We work collaboratively with participants, families, Support Coordinators, allied health professionals, SDA providers and other relevant members of the support network to help ensure responsibilities are clear and supports remain responsive to the participant's needs.

Ardor Care's role is to provide the participant's disability supports. We do not need to be the participant's SDA housing provider in order to provide support within their SDA home.
